Hebrews 12:2a – …looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
What we focus on can determine how we fare. Hebrews 12:2a directs our focus to Christ and offers His credentials of author and finisher of our faith. I think we are well-advised to focus on the One who knows us from before the beginning and after the end.
“Looking unto Jesus” is remembering what He has said. Christ has said many wonderful things concerning you and me. He is the word of God!
1. He has promised us brighter day.
Psalm 30:5 – For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning.
2. He has promised us deliverance.
Psalm 34:19 – Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.
3. He has promised us divine care in sickness.
Psalm 41:3 – The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.
4. He has promised us the comfort of His presence.
Isaiah 43:2 – When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.
5. He has promised us that all things will work for the believers’ good.
Romans 8:28 – And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
6. He has promised us the sufficiency of His divine grace.
II Corinthians 12:9 – And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
“Looking unto Jesus” is remembering what He has done.
1. He raised the dead; ask Lazarus in John 11 and Mark 8:35-42
2. He opened blinded eyes; Mark 8:22-25
3. He fed thousands beginning with just a small lunch; Matthew 14:13-21
“Looking unto Jesus” is remembering where He is.
Colossians 1:26-27 reads, “The mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. 27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
My friend, if you have a personal relationship with Christ, you don’t have to look far. The word of God says that He is in you. It means that wherever you are He is there right now in you.
He is also your hope of glory or the reason you can have favorable expectations of God. The only thing needed is the kind of stillness that allows you to hear Him speaking into your life.
Shhhh! Might He be speaking now? Take a moment to be still and know your God!
