We place most of our thoughts as they relate to the promises of God around what they are in terms of deliverances, brighter days, care in sickness, etc.
I want you to consider something else about God’s promises: they are assured.
They are pledges or assurances but they are also assured. Laws, pledges or assurances are only as good as the force backing them.
Consider the following characteristics of God’s promises:
1. They are assured by Divine ability.
Romans 4:21 – He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever He promises.
• He is simply able.
2. They are unfailing.
I Kings 8:56 – Praise the LORD who has given rest to his people Israel, just as He promised. Not one word has failed of all the wonderful promises He gave through His servant Moses.
• He has never failed and He won’t start with you.
3. They are grounded in Christ.
II Corinthians 1:20 – For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.
• There is no better foundation.
4. They are of infinite value.
II Peter 1:4 – And because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
• Your most precious resource.
5. They culminate in everlasting life.
I John 2:25 – And in this fellowship we enjoy the eternal life He promised us.
• It is not how we began or where we are now but how and where we end.
My friend, as wonderful as God’s promises are, the force backing them is more wonderful. God Himself is our Assurance of the efficacy of His promises.
It just doesn’t get better than that!
So breathe a great sigh of relief, find a promise of God you need right now and rest in His Assurance that He is able to fulfill what He promised.
