The Bible is replete with life lessons. The principles the Bible teaches us must find application in both the heart and life of the believer.
There is a sense in which the principle of giving related to finances is God’s way of employing our money. That is to say, through our giving, God gives our money a job.
Our money’s job is to multiply and God is able to make it happen. There are keys to multiplication revealed in Matthew 14:19 [Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes].
Jesus had the task of feeding what some estimated was from 10,000-15,000 people. We knew that there were 5,000 men only. His problem was, all His disciples had were 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.
Multiplication of what He had was the only way He could accomplish His goal. Matthew 14:19 reveals two things Jesus did that I believe are keys to multiplication.
1. Jesus took the 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish, looked up toward heaven and blessed them.
• Multiplication is the result of something being blessed.
When we bring God His tithe, we bless what remains. The Bible says, in essence, what we do with the “first part” determines how the rest will fair; Romans 11:16 [For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches].
2. After breaking the loaves into pieces, He gave the bread to the disciples who distributed them to the people.
• Note that multiplication did not take place without giving.
What would have happened if Jesus had refused to give the loaves and fish to the disciples for distribution? There would have been no multiplication.
Today, meditate on Matthew 14:19 and let God help you in making any needed adjustments in living what you believe.
Peace and blessings!
