Overcoming Excuses - Final2

As we share our faith with unbelievers, we are sure to get many excuses as to why they have yet to give their hearts to the Lord.

Our responses to these excuses must be biblical, loving and compassionate. What the unconverted do not need are believers who JFJ them. JFJ stands for “Jump them for Jesus.” That is not a biblical approach and will not, in most instances, produce the desired results.

I want to offer you, over the next three days, biblical responses to common excuses that unconverted people make.

Remember, our responses are not just biblical but also loving and compassionate.

Excuse #1: Not today!

• Choose for yourself today.

Joshua 24:15 – And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

• How long will you hesitate?

I Kings 18:21 – And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” But the people answered him not a word.

• Do not boast about tomorrow.

Proverbs 27:1 – Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

• Seek the Lord while He may be found.

Isaiah 55:6 – Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.

• Son of Man coming at an hour that you do not think He will.

Matthew 24:44 – Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

• This very night your soul will be required of you.

Luke 12:19-20 – And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

• Now why do you delay?

Acts 22:16 – And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

• Now is the acceptable time.

II Corinthians 6:2 – “In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Each of one of these scriptures are direct answers to the “not today” excuse. Get familiar with them, write them out in their entirety and place them where you have easy access; perhaps on your phone or other electronic device.

Ask God to prepare your heart to respond to this excuse in a way that will draw and not repel people.

Thank God for the opportunity to be used by Him in what is most important to Him; that is, Lost Sheep!

Share with me this week how you have used one or more of these responses to minister to an unconverted Soul.

Peace and blessings!

Amen PT! This is a great Word to start our month of transformation breakthroughs.
As you have taught from experience, the best way to lead people to the Lord (or to Church) is developing a relationship with them first. However, if we have only a one-time chance encounter with someone, than we can put to use the tools and resources GCFI has made available. I carry a small amount of GCFI business cards to pass out for those types of meetings. I don’t try to preach a sermon. I only concentrate on being warm, friendly and relate to the person as Paul showed us in the Scriptures.

  2. Amen, will do! Speak the Word as one plants, one waters, but God adds the increase. We pray that every hardened heart will become softened by the Word of God, the conviction of the Holy Spirit and by the Lord’s mercy.

Amen PT. JFJ is not the method to use on unbelievers. The bible says Prov 11:30 he that winneth souls is wise. Love and compassion is the biblical way. Prov 11:5 the righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way…..; 6 the righteousness of the upright shall deliver them…..; 11 by the blessing of the upright the city is exalted. Follow Christ’s examples. Always teaching and demonstrating the ways of the LORD.

Great practical and applicable scriptures to use, thanks PT. I often wonder why people wait when there lives can be so much better with Christ no matter what the circumstances or situation. It is so important to seek first the kingdom of God above everything and everyone. All that other stuff is truly not that important.

As you said to us before P T God is interested in lost things as we ourselves was lost at one time so we must have compassion on the lost now Paul even said if we do all these good works in God and have not love we become nothing great teaching today thanks

Agree and was previously meditating on 2 Timothy 2:23-26, for the last 2 months that tells us to be kind to everyone and to instruct gently those who oppose so God may grant them repentance to lead to truth…oh well let’s just copy and paste it.

23 Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. 24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. 25 Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
