Words that are consistent with God’s 7th fruit of the Spirit, faithfulness, are standing fast or steadfastness, loyal, devoted, tried, constant, reliable, unwavering, trustworthy, dependable, resolute, honest, punctual and steady.
It also refers to endurance; the qualities referred to above cannot be produced without endurance.
So what do we endure?
1. Small things.
Luke 16:10-12 – If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. 11 And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven? 12 And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own?
2. Waiting in faith for things we cannot see yet.
II Corinthians 5:7 – For we walk by faith, not by sight.
3. The humility to receive correction and restoration.
I John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Matthew 26:52-54 – But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels? 54 How then could the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen thus?”
5. The ‘shade makers’ or haters
Matthew 10:22 – And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.
D.L. Moody said concerning faith, “I believe in a faith that you can see; a living working faith that prompts action. Faith without works is like a man putting all his money into the foundation of a house; and works without faith is like building a house on sand without any foundation.”
God is the standard and source of our faith.
Note the words of this hymn:
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee,
Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not,
As Thou hast been,Thou forever wilt be.
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above;
Join with all nature in manifold witness,
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own great presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today, and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.
God is indeed our standard for faithfulness. Meditate on His faithfulness today and ask Him to help you be more like Him!
Peace and blessings!
