Manna For Today: Friday, January 8, 2016
1. Growth is something that should be in our prayer daily for ourselves and others.
Colossians 1:9-10 – So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.
2. Growth requires that I put away some things.
I Peter 2:1-3 – So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech. 2 Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, 3 now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.
3. Growth in God demands attention to particular detail.
II Peter 3:18 – Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.
4. Growth is a product of our investing ourselves in God’s Word.
II Timothy 3:16-17 – All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
5. Growth is a work in us that Christ, through His enablement, causes to happen.
Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
6. Growth cannot be accomplished without adversity.
James 1:1-4 – This letter is from James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am writing to the “twelve tribes”—Jewish believers scattered abroad. Greetings! 2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
7. Growth and our ability to listen are connected.
Proverbs 1:5 – Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance.
Growth is the Purpose and Plan of God for every believer. Allow the Spirit of God the kind of access to your heart today that will allow exponential growth.
Peace and blessings!
