James 1:22-25 – Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
Self-deception is more common than we think; we practice deceiving ourselves daily. We convince ourselves we need and should have a number of things that are not only unnecessary but sometimes harmful.
One of the worst ways in which we can deceive ourselves is to participate with God in a superficial way; going through all the rituals and never giving application to them in our daily lives.
We want to and can be that person the Bible says who will be “blessed in what they do.”
Today, let’s not just read God’s Word. Let’s do it. Ask God to show you how to apply what you read daily to your life. Share what He shows you with someone.
Peace and blessings!
