Manna For Today: Wednesday, December 28, 2016
My dear friend, we are viewing our current set of circumstances through the eyes of faith or fear right now. We can know what lens we are using to see our situation by the kind of response we have to what we see.
The fear lens always affects us the same way:
1. Fear magnifies the negative.
Remember Elisha’s servant in II Kings 6:15; when the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. “Oh, sir, what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha.
His fear magnified the negative and disabled his ability to see by faith. It wasn’t until Elisha prayed that his eyes were opened and he was enabled to see by faith what fear was prohibiting him from seeing; II Kings 6:16-17 [“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!” The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire].
2. Fear makes us think we are inadequate for the task.
Remember Gideon in Judges 6. God called him to be used to bring deliverance to God’s people. While he finally got there, he struggled with his assessment of himself related to the task.
3. Fear always discourages.
Remember David in Ziklag. In discouragement, he wept until he had no more power to weep; I Samuel 30:4. All the men with him along with David feared because they suffered great loss.
4. Fear makes our attitude tank.
Remember the people with David in Ziklag in I Samuel 30. They wanted to kill David because of their losses.
5. Fear will inevitably cause us to blame others including God.
Remember the children of Israel after the exodus; they wanted to go back and be slaves when they were confronted by fear.
My friend, I want you to ask God to show you if you are seeing through the lens of fear and to help you, if you are, break that lens so that you can begin to look through faith lens moving forward.
The Bible says it is impossible to please God without faith. Take a step of faith right now and dare to trust God where you have doubted in times past. You will be pleasing your Father!
Peace and blessings!
